JOURNEY TO HEALING FOUNDATION

Healing as a birthright

SUPPORT A SCHOLAR

OUR MISSION

The Journey to Healing Foundation makes transformative shadow work and trauma healing accessible to BIPOC and Indigenous people. Through scholarships, we open the Journey to Completion™ program to those who have been shut out of deep healing work. Through film and media, we teach trauma healing for our times and share Indigenous wisdom with the guidance of its lineage keepers. Through service trips, we give back to the Indigenous communities whose knowledge has shaped this work.

WHAT WE DO

Scholarships

Low- and no-cost access to the Journey to Completion™ shadow work and trauma healing program for BIPOC and Indigenous people, so cost is never the reason someone cannot heal.

Healing education

Films, talks, and media that teach trauma healing for our times, grounded in more than four decades of counseling practice.

Indigenous wisdom

Stories and teachings shared with the guidance of the wisdom keepers who carry them, and credited to the communities they come from.

Service trips

Journeys that give back to the Indigenous communities whose knowledge has shaped this work, offered in gratitude and reciprocity.

VISION

We envision a world where healing is a birthright, not a privilege.

A world where BIPOC and Indigenous people can access the deep work of transforming trauma, where Indigenous wisdom is honored and carried forward in right relationship, and where healing flows back to the communities it came from.

Norma Nakai Burton

CO-FOUNDER AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR · FOUNDER OF THE JOURNEY TO COMPLETION™ METHODOLOGY

Norma is a pioneering expert in complex trauma healing with more than 40 years of counseling experience. She did M.A. and Ph.D. work at Berkeley's Graduate Theological Union and earned her M.Div. at Pacific School of Religion, specializing in hospice chaplaincy and psychology.

Her career began with a decade of leadership in domestic violence advocacy, including service at the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence headquarters. She went on to direct Thich Nhat Hanh's Buddhist Peace Fellowship, and in 2014 founded The Circle of Trust Healing Center, a state-certified addiction recovery and mental health facility.

After more than 30 years of apprenticeship with Indigenous elders, she founded Journey to Completion™. She co-created curriculum for Amsterdam's Synthesis Institute and served on Oregon's Psilocybin Therapy Rules Advisory Committee.

Nisha Burton

Nisha Burton

CO-FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR OF MEDIA

Nisha is an award-winning filmmaker, lucid dreaming practitioner, and emerging technologies consultant. Raised in a shamanic lineage, she traveled the world as a child to study directly with wisdom keepers.

She carries ancestral knowledge of altered states and soul work passed through Choctaw, Santee, and Cree lines, a Yoruba lineage rooted in her father's work, and a Druidic thread on her mother's Celtic side. Alongside that lineage, she has studied Tibetan Dream Yoga, Jungian dream analysis, and the work of dream researchers such as Stephen LaBerge.

As co-founder of Lucid Living Inc., she teaches lucid dreaming workshops around the world and has co-authored three books on consciousness. At the foundation, she leads the films and media that carry this work to a wider audience.

IN RIGHT RELATIONSHIP

The wisdom at the heart of this work was shared by Indigenous elders and wisdom keepers over many years, and lives on in Nisha's own Choctaw, Santee, and Cree lineage. We honor that trust by sharing teachings only with the guidance of those who keep them, by crediting the communities they come from, and by returning support to those communities through service.
